The IROC (Integral Reduction Of Chlorine System) Water Softening System uses KDF-55 MediaGuard to remove 95% of the chlorine as it enters the water softener.

KDF-55

A KDF-55 filter media consists of finely granulated copper and zinc alloys. The combination of these two alloys in the media allows the chemical reaction of redox (Oxidation-Reduction) to take place when water passes through the media. Redox involves the transfer of electrons between two molecules, changing these molecules into entirely different elements. In the KDF process, electrons are taken from harmful contaminants like chlorine and microorganisms. This loss of electrons changes contaminants into far less harmful, or even harmless, elements. For example, chlorine-- when it loses an electron in a redox reaction--is changed into the harmless, water-soluble chemical chloride. While there are several different KDF media, KDF-55 is designed to specifically remove or reduce chlorine, heavy metals, and microbiological contaminants.
 

The KDF media chamber removes not only chlorine but also lead, bacteria, iron, and a variety of other impurities.  Granular activated carbon is mixed with our premium high capacity resin which is specially formulated to remove the remainder of the chlorine, organics, THM’s (Trihalomethanes), tastes and musty or earthy odors.  Unlike softeners which rely just upon carbon, the IROC’s carbon will last many years because the chlorine does not have a deleterious effect upon it as the majority of the chlorine is removed by the KDF-55 REDOX media. 

Used ahead of Reverse Osmosis (RO Drinking Water Systems) and ion exchange systems (Water Softeners), KDF process mdia also safeguards expensive membranes, resins and system components.

Because KDF process media contain no chemical additivies and are 100% recyclabe, costly disposal requirements are eliminated. What's more, KDF process media are safer for the environment.

This unit comes with a warranty of 1 year labor, 10 year parts, lifetime vessel and brine tank. The IROC is availble for purchase or rental (two year contract is required).
