Go Green!!!

1- Stop using plastic "single serving" water bottles.

2- No need for Jet Dry when you have soft water.

3- Just 2 teaspoons of powder in the dishwasher.

4- Use reuseable shopping bags.

5- Clean top to bottom - dirt and dust can fall from ceilings and walls onto surfaces situated lower, so clean these first.

6- Avoid using cleaning products with the visible label terms "Danger", "Caution", "Corrosive", "Poison". You can usual tell when they have been applied because a strong scent lingers in the air longer after use, causing headaches or respiratory distress. These products are very dangerous to the environment, tainting our water supply, decimating fish and plant life, and releasing caustic substances into the atmosphere. They also do us no favors - our skin is an extremely permeable and absorptive organ, and toxins that come in contact with it are soaked in and transferred directly into our bloodstream.

7- Use cloth dish towels instead of disposable paper towels.

8- Unbleached cotton cleaning cloths for cleaning. Simply toss them in the wash and continue to use for years.

9- Carpool to work.

10-Reuse old, cut-up sponges as moisture-retainers at the bottom of potted plants.

11-Consider buying organic and local whenever possible. Organic food is produced without chemicals, such as pesticides, that are harmful for the environment (including our water) and to humans.

12-Shop Farmers Markets - Farmer's markets increase opportunities for growers of all sizes and combat the growing industrialization of food.

13-Enjoy raw fruits, vegetables and salads to reduce energy consumption.

14-Clean produce in short water baths rather than with running water.

15-Replace appliances with more energy efficient models. You'll save energy and maybe even benefit from additional savings with an energy credit.

16-Buy minimally packaged foods in larger quantities and make lunches by placing food in reusable containers.

17-Try buying a gift certificate, tickets to a play or sporting event, items made out of recycled material for Holiday Gifts this year.

18-Go Tankless! Invest in a tankless water heater.

19-Cover up that Pool....did you know that swimming pools loose around 40 thousand to 50 thousand liters of water per year through evaporation.  That equates to approximately the same amount of water 4 people would use showering per year. That’s a truck load of water.

7/27/07- " Hi Steve, There are hundreds of sites talking about this, it has been on TV,newspapers etc, but it is just getting some press.  Saw a show on the Animal Channel last night that talked about the Albatross having a hard time surviving because their stomachs are full of trash, their young are dying. It was really sad. It was the only thing I thought about chanting this morning. http://www.mindfully.org/Plastic/Ocean/Moore-Trashed-PacificNov03.htmhttp://www.bestlifeonline.com/cms/publish/travel-leisure/Our_oceans_are_turning_into_plastic_are_we.shtml
